[ James has been impatiently waiting for Ozpin to return and more than a little afraid he wouldn't. Ozpin doesn't work the same way here, and the wait felt achingly familiar, as a rose-tinted version of Ozpin once again grew in his head.
They always had their differences but things were different here. The way he strained against Oz's traditions and leadership didn't matter in a world where Ozpin hadn't been the one to carve out the rules himself - and that desire for guidance was changed too, Ozpin had lost the luster if the only person he could go to, and slowly he was gaining a new kind of luster.
Ironwood had very few people here he could count on and Ozpin was one of the few, and James, ever in denial of how lonely he really was, latched onto and would not let it go.
Then he died. Again. He left James, again, to hold the reins.
And then - then there was this text. Something about it didn't sound right - (Oz always called him James, sometimes General, but hearing his full name almost made him wonder if he had done something wrong). The phrasing, the strange little things like 'pal'.
"Once I'm feeling well". James had also heard about the death flu without ever witnessing it himself. He wants Oz to be back so badly he immediately jumps on that explanation, attributing all oddities to that. Clean and simple and what James wanted to hear so of course it was that. ]
