Deerington; TRUST
Tactical Regimented United Special Training
OVERVIEW:
"All Sleepers should be as prepared as possible to defend themselves."
TRUST is meant to be a place where anyone can train, learn how to fight, and/or improve or learn new combat, tactical, and/or survival skills.
The organization does not ask people to join or enroll in TRUST to use its training hall, attend classes, or even teach, merely offers its resources as things for the Sleepers to take advantage of, free of charge. It does ask that you check in so they can schedule accordingly. That said, characters are welcomed to join/work for TRUST if they choose.
Feel free to treat TRUST's training camp, the farm, as a location in game that can be used as a setting for training, sparring, teaching, etc. While there are sign-ups if you want to be open for further plotting, that's all optional!
LOCATION:
Just off Main Street in the Clarke Acres neighbourhood of Deerington is a former farm and current Training Hall & Camp for Combat and Survival Training: the headquarters of TRUST.
CURRENT IC STATUS: Under Construction (equipment and buildings described may be incomplete/in the process of being built)

The Farmhouse functions as the administration building, including Ironwood's Office. It's also the place to go for the kitchen, washrooms, even a laundry room (hey, training can mess up your clothes). The living room has been transformed into a lecture space, for a more comfortable learning experience when the training hall won't do. The former bedrooms are available for various other offices or purposes. Furniture is sparse.
- Offices: Ironwood (main floor);
- Utilities: washrooms (2); kitchen (main floor); laundry room (basement)
- Other: first aid room; [space available]

The Barn This has been hollowed out and repurposed into becoming the Training Hall. Hardwood floors and lots of space, it's available for sparring and training indoors. A shed right next to the barn houses any equipment that can be borrowed for use in the hall.
- Available equipment: wooden staves; wooden dummies; targets; protective ear muffs; mattresses
The Fields or, basically anything outdoors. There's plenty of space to put or build things here, or simply train outdoors.
- Firing Range: a fenced off outdoor area with targets set up at the other end. Safety equipment can be borrowed from the Training Hall's shed.
The Silo, currently unused and closed off.
The Stables, currently unoccupied and closed off. Includes a small horse track that can be used for running laps.
ROLES / EMPLOYMENT:
There are employment opportunities! Most employment is in the form of part-time combat (or other survival skills) instructors, however you do not need to register your character as an employee to train or teach someone at TRUST. It's completely optional if you want to make your affiliation with TRUST more official. Getting officially hired can be handwaved. If you'd like to thread it out, feel free to plot with Ironwood here or contact his inbox. (or insert person with equivalent hiring power here)
Feel free to think of other ways your character could work for or with TRUST, such as administrative, support, janitorial, etc.
If you would like to make things more official, comment with your character here. And remember to register with the game too.
Services are offered free of charge, including classes. As an organization rather than a business in Deer, compensation ends up in your character's bank account. Ironwood may give your character bonuses out of his own pocket for good work, though.
EMPLOYEES
- Administrator: James Ironwood
CLASSES AVAILABLE:
Please comment to this thread if you want classes to be on the chart. You don't have to set a specific schedule, just give a description of the things your character is teaching. They don't have to be an official employee either, acting in a more informal or freelance capacity, coming in and using the space when it's free. Ironwood prefers if you ask permission, but that can be handwaved.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Surveillance & Security: There are some old 1950s security cameras around but their capabilities are limited. See here for information on Ironwood's surveillance of the farm! At the moment, there isn't much security either outside the farmhouse. Characters can even come to use the farm "off-hours" if they wish to avoid dealing with Ironwood directly, at the risk of... whatever is out there at night. That may change in the future.
Ironwood Plotting: James Ironwood has his own plans and goals for TRUST and there's some optional plotting opportunities with him specifically; go here for that.
Development: other ways characters can contribute to TRUST; Comment to this thread.
Just want to throw up a simple plotting comment? Here you go!
Questions? If you would like to hash things out or if you have any questions, this is the thread for that!

TRUST EMPLOYMENT & CLASSES;
(frozen comment) FORM;
Character: your character
Role: Part-time official instructor? Freelance? Administration or other type of employee?
Notes: any details you want to add, link to IC threads discussing it, etc
If you are teaching classes or training people, please fill out this as well if you want it officially listed:
Class: What's your character teaching? Is it a combat based class? It can be as general or specific as you like, ie "combat class" or "swordsmanship: katanas and broadswords". Non-combat classes such as first aid, survival skills, etc are acceptable as well!
Instructor: your character
Schedule: Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, "whenever they feel like it and the training hall is free", on appointment, etc
Additional Details: Optional! What can people expect? Anything you want to add? Links to somewhere someone can plot with you?

Character: James Ironwood
Role: Administrator
Notes: that's probably obvious by now
Class: Basic Combat
Instructor: James Ironwood
Schedule: Has at least one regular class weekly but since he's almost always there he's up for sparring or training basically whenever though he does prefer you make an appointment first. In some cases he may offer on his own!
Additional Details: His class is purposefully general/ambiguous, for beginners or people uninterested in more specific classes, so nobody falls through the cracks

Character: Fern
Role: Part-time official instructor
Notes: Fern is a teenager and while he's very skilled in combat, he's still learning how to be a good teacher. He's happy to teach anyone who wants to learn from him, though leans towards peers and younger kids.
Class: Various kinds of combat: hand-to-hand, melee (blunt and bladed) weaponry, long-range/projectile weaponry.
Instructor: Fern
Schedule: After school, evenings, weekends, by appointment. Whenever Fern has some free time, he isn't very good at keeping a consistent time.
Additional Details: The projectile weaponry are introductory classes for guns, more advanced classes for crossbows. Hand-to-hand and melee are introductory and advanced classes. Fern is happy to tailor the class to the individual (e.g. focusing on defense in hand-to-hand). His lessons are pretty unconventional and can include supernatural abilities.

Character: Darth Maul
Role: Combat Instructor
Notes: Maul has already been instructing people for some time now, so this just gives him an official place to do so, and actually earn some money instead of being a murder-hobo all the time.
Class: Basic, midlevel, and advanced swordsmanship, staff-fighting, and unarmed combat. He also gives instructions to those with "special abilities" such as the Force.
Instructor: Darth Maul
Schedule: He prefers to do one-on-one lessons by appointment but can often be found there at the same time several times a week for anyone who wants to engage his services.
Additional Details: He will schedule a couple of people together if they are of the same level so they can spar.

Character: Claire Novak (
Role: Part-time instructor
Class: Survival Skills
Instructor: Claire Novak
Schedule: Weekly
Additional Details: Survival as it pertains to the life of a hunter specifically which incorporates themes of street fighting, drifting, con-artistry, monsters and combat, handling weapons and anything there-in like tracking, studying the lore, etc.
no subject
Character: Raleigh Becket
Role: Instructor
Notes: Raleigh is an experienced combat veteran and has been teaching self defense lessons already so this seems like an easy side step. He self medicated with obsessive workouts so.. you're gonna see a lot of him I'm sorry. Raleigh pls why are you like this.
Class: Beginners MMA
Instructor: Raleigh Becket
Schedule: M/W/F 2PM & 6PM
Additional Details: Endurance, Grappling and basic strikes for beginners interested in learning Mixed Martial Arts. This is a great option for someone uncomfortable with long range or projectile weapons and wanting to learn the basics of hand to hand for self defense.

Character: Mako
Role: Part-time official instructor
Notes: Mako talked about this in the inital post, but: he's pretty experienced with (magic) boxing and street fighting, so he'll be teaching people either powerless hand-to-hand OR hand-to-hand using their powers, if their magic can be used like bending at all.
Class: Unpowered hand-to-hand & powered / magic hand-to-hand
Instructor: Mako
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons
Additional Details: This will be mostly martial arts & kickboxing stuff based heavily in bending techniques. Mako's interested in working with fellow powered people to see if magic can be used like bending i.e. physically directed.
TRUST DEVELOPMENT;
QUESTIONS;
IRONWOOD;
(frozen comment) Info;
Anyway he wouldn't say no to a personal army or cult of personality. He's actively looking out for people he thinks are useful, which can cover a broad range. Competent fighters, scientists, magic users, people who have a lot of influence in the community, etc, as well as anyone who would make a good
underlingcopsubordinatesupporter. While training at the TRUST farm doesn't guarantee he'll attempt to recruit you to his side, it's an option on the table. He'll want to win the favour of these types of characters and may take on a certain avuncular air. The friendly authority figure, someone you can count on.On the flip side, he wants to keep his eyes out for anyone suspicious or working against the interests of the "greater good". He can be paranoid and may lean into surveillance, spying, and more manipulative methods to get people to stay in line.
As a head's up: Ironwood can be controlling, manipulative and as he gets more stressed: rash, angry, passive aggressive, normal aggressive, and prone to escalate things. He doesn't appreciate disloyalty or going against his wishes, and depending on how high the stakes are, perfectly willing to sacrifice anyone or anything for what he thinks is the greater good.
There are red flags publicly available if your character pokes around enough. While I'd prefer to avoid public callout posts at this point in time, I'm definitely down for rumours, suspicions, doing some digging, negative cr, etc.
(frozen comment) Surveillance;
Around the farm is a a couple old 1950s surveillance cameras, but they're technologically limited; the video feed has to be actively monitored, lacks sound or colour, and Ironwood's doing that himself. At some point he may figure out how to rig the cameras to his fluid or scroll, but for now they're not being recorded.
On top of that, because they're not easy to find he only has a couple of cameras (basically one per area) so there's huge blind spots. Characters who don't like to be watched can nudge the cameras to point away to further those blind spots - though he may notice that's happened.
Essentially, it's fairly easy for him to miss what your character is doing if you don't want him to see!
If you are interested in having him observe, either through the cameras or far more directly (he may come watch sessions in the training hall or farm; for things outdoors he can even look out the window of his office to watch), please let me know in Plotting below & feel free to include whatever details he might pick up!
Ironwood Plotting & Questions; (this one you respond to ty!)
